2Strands Biosciences – a custom WordPress website for a Singapore precision diagnostics start-up, explaining ctDNA cancer monitoring with a team page, news section and secure enquiry form.
2Strands Biosciences – a custom WordPress website for a Singapore precision diagnostics start-up that is developing blood-based tests to monitor cancer recurrence. It explains a hard piece of science in plain steps, shows the team and the company’s milestones, and gives investors, lab partners and job seekers a clear way to get in touch.
The brief
2Strands is early-stage, so the website has to carry trust for it: funders, clinical and lab partners and future hires all look at it before they write. The old site was a single page made with a website builder. The new one needed a calm, serious look that still feels like a modern biotech company, a way to explain circulating tumour DNA (ctDNA) and minimal residual disease (MRD) monitoring to people who are not specialists, and a news section the team can keep adding to without a developer.
What I built
- A dark navy and green design – a full-screen first view with a DNA helix drawn in the browser, the one-line promise and three short facts: ultra-sensitive, blood-based, MRD monitoring. The helix starts moving on the first touch or scroll and pauses when it is off screen, so it never slows the page.
- Science explained in steps – a problem and solution story, then a before and after enrichment animation that shows how mutant signals are lifted out of background DNA. The same sections are reused on the Home, About and Science pages.
- Five pages and a 404 – Home, About, Team, Science and News, plus a branded not-found page. The Team page lists the management team and advisors with their background.
- A news section the team can run – six press releases as real posts, each with its own page, a featured story on top and cards below. Date label, cover and breadcrumb are simple fields in wp-admin, and each article has share buttons and a reading progress bar.
- A contact form that is hard to spam – a custom form with reCAPTCHA, a hidden honeypot field, a timer and rate limiting. Each enquiry is saved under Enquiries in wp-admin, the team gets a branded HTML e-mail with a reply button, and the sender gets an automatic thank-you copy.
- A mobile layout of its own – a drawer menu that carries the address and social links, a slim footer and a scrolling strip for the partner logos.
- Search and AI ready – titles and descriptions for every page, canonical URLs, Open Graph share cards, an XML sitemap, robots.txt, and llms.txt plus llms-full.txt for AI assistants. Structured data covers the organisation, the website, breadcrumbs, the team members and each news article.
- Lead tracking – Google Analytics 4 loads after the first interaction and records form leads, e-mail clicks and phone clicks.
- Managed hosting – the site runs on my server with page caching and a one-year cache on images, fonts and scripts, and I look after updates and support.
- Measured quality – on three mobile Lighthouse runs accessibility, best practices and SEO scored 100 every time, layout shift was 0 and the home page weighs 289 KB. Performance scored 84, 87 and 100, and the spread comes from the animated helix.
